Give Up Tomorrow

For my Citizenship and Governance class last term, we were told to go to a movie screening hosted by DLSU's College of Law entitled “Give Up Tomorrow” for some few extra points. I couldn't give up the opportunity to earn a little more credit and also to watch a documentary. When this was announced, my friend Miguel was so excited that he couldn't contain himself. (coming from a guy who isn't really that enthusiastic haha!) So he showed us the trailer of the documentary that we were going to watch.

The documentary is based on a real 1997 trial case that happened in Cebu about Spanish-Filipino born teenager then hailed from a political family named Paco LarraƱaga who was accused of double murder for the death of the Chiong sisters along with six other suspects. It was so big that it was even named as "The Trial of the Century". A heated battle against the suspects and the victim's family up until the Spanish King asking former President Gloria Arroyo to transfer Paco to a Spanish jail. The film shows what he went through with the trial, how his family and the victim's family reacted and also how the Philippine government responded.

The producer, Marty Syjuco and also a relative of Paco, made the film to share what his family is going through as of the moment. In the website (www.pacodocu.com) the film is described as,

GIVE UP TOMORROW exposes a Kafkaesque extravaganza populated by flamboyantly corrupt public officials, cops on the take, and a frenzied legal and media circus. It is also an intimate family drama focused on the near mythic struggle of two angry and sorrowful mothers who have dedicated more than a decade to executing or saving one young man, Paco LarraƱaga.”

The film has gained so much awards from the international community and the crew is still showing it around the world to raise awareness on the unjust Philippine judiciary system.

I'll be writing about my own opinion on the movie after this post. I highly recommend this movie especially to students because it's not just some boring documentary about the Philippine government again. Seriously! I ended up crying and the whole auditorium clapped their hands when the film ended because it's that good and heartfelt. Watch it!!!!!

2013 Stalker Vibes

I wanted to start the year off with a list of people that are sure to entertain you. There are a lot of talented people out there that are just waiting to be discovered and I firmly believe that I have found them. (and also since I'm friends or schoolmates with these people hehe sorry for the bias). Anyways, the people that I've chosen are actually masters in their own craft (chos) and are very passionate in what they do. So here is my list of people who are “follow worthy” or even worthy enough to stalk when it comes to their respective arts.

The lead singer of Jaira the Gathering who always kicks ass most especially when it comes to the DLSZ Battle of the Bands. This girl composes her own songs and also does covers and uploads them in her soundcloud page. I just admire people who get to compose their own songs + play the piano. Teach me please huhuhu :-(

This guy is really amazing! I heard him sing back in high school during school events and it's something that girls fall in love with. He also performed in one of my friend's debut just recently and they also went head over heels. His covers are really something especially when he sings together with his two friends backing him up. There aren't much songs in his soundcloud and youtube account but they're still very worthy to listen to! Just someone to fangirl over. ~o.o~

The Taft Food Experience

The only reason why I gained so much weight in college: the Taft food experience. The first thing on my agenda when I got to DLSU was to try all the food stalls and also the restaurants that surrounded it. Now here's my list (so far) of go to places whenever I feel like eating a light snack or gobbling my way til my next class starts.
  1. Jus & Jerry's – you'd usually find me sitting here with my friends while waiting for my next class to start. It's located at the back of the EGI tower and I'd usually go here since this is where the fast wifi is. It's cheap and yummy chinese food and maybe you'd just catch a glimpse of the gwapo owner who works behind the counter. (Not really sure if he's Jus or if he's Jerry though)

  2. Rap's – a steak house where you can order a regular steak that is as big as your plate for only 140 pesos and also for their buttery gravy that they serve you by the jugs! Pour it on your sauce and add some Worstershire sauce and voila! Fatty goodness here I come!

  3. Bagnet – located at the back of the Providence tower, this resto serves you Bagnet, the Ilocano version of crispy pata, in different ways. They serve it sisig style, sinigang and my favorite, Kare-kareng bagnet! The price is worth the taste and if you're lucky (or a die hard music fan) you may catch some bands practicing at the 2nd floor of the building.

  4. Goodles – located at the 2nd floor of the University Mall, it's kind of hidden from the public eye since it's tucked away in one of the nooks of the mall. It has this creative kick to it and they serve their pasta in creative ways and in cute cups. I first went there with my blockmates to eat while waiting for a talk in school one late night and I discovered that they serve pretty large servings! My favorite there is the Basic Meat which is Lasagna and is packed with Mozerella that stretches when you get to pull that first scoop of pasta out! Perfect to share with your friends or even with a date.

  5. Lunchbox – A korean resto located in the EGI Tower that serves cheap meals. My fave there is the Tonkatsu mayo which I add more mayo to it (hehe fatty goodness). Perfect to do your papers there after eating.

  6. Mrs. Friedrice – A Zobel original and is know back there as Mr. Friedrice. But now it seems that it got married with a new name and is a go to place for a very cheap rice meal located in Agno. My fave there is the Beef with 2 pieces of croquettes. The store is very close to my heart since I used to buy food from there back when I was about to run our of money in every Zobel Fair.
I also found a map filled with the restos that surround Taft from a blog of a foodie! (http://geloreyes.tumblr.com/post/21780904754/a-gastronomic-guide-map-to-taft-ave)

There are a lot of food stalls to eat in and around DLSU but these are my top go to places. If you wanna find me, I'm probably in one of these places. If there a new places that deserve to be included here, don't be shy to tell me!

Gift Idea: Royale Products

I know this post is way past Christmas but you can always give these as a late Christmas gift to your friends and family that you won't be seeing until January!

My parents joined Royale Business  Club about a year ago and even though some of you guys would think it's totally bogus - it worked pretty well for them! Anyways my parents, together with their own team, are selling these products for all of you to enjoy! I was actually thinking to join so that I could actually earn a little without really working that much so this will be my first try on it.

I actually just introduced it to you since it's still the season of giving and it isn't too late to give your loved ones! It solves the hassle of going to the mall and looking through different stores just to end up buying something that they wouldn't really use or need. Plus I do use these and they're really good! Here's just some of their products that I regularly use now especially with all that added weight gain.

Fiberich is 100% Psyllium Seed Husk which helps eliminate constipation, aids in blood sugar management and also helps you lose all that Christmas weight! What I usually do is I mix it in my fruit juices whenever I'd eat and it's not that bad! Just imagine drinking those Nesvita drinks that contains oats. It's really good for your health and for the health conscious.

Fitshape contains pills that have L-Carnitine and Green Tea Extract in it to ~well duh~ to lose weight. Hahaha what's new with me right? It gives you an added energy boost and cleans your bloodstream. Who wouldn't want to be healthy enough to celebrate the incoming year with your friends and family right?

Whenever I'd stay up late doing school papers, I'd usually opt for this instead of just getting your usual 3 in 1 coffees. It has your usual coffee, cream and sugar but it also has 5 more ingredients which are proteins, spirulina, essential fatty acids, vitamins, minerals and ginseng. These ingredients help you stay awake even longer and gives you enough brain power to whatever activity you're doing.

They also have their own Ascorbic Acid! Nowadays, it's such a hassle (and expensive) to get sick and be absent from school or work for a few days. Time is money right? Whenever I'd feel a little bit under the weather, I'd start drinking this to boost up my immune system.
